A Brief Description of Who we are What we Believe
St. George’s is a community of people who seek to follow Jesus and live the gospel of love, compassion, mercy, justice, and peace that he taught and that he now inspires in us through the Holy Spirit. We express this faith within the Anglican tradition, which means we worship each week with specific prayers and sacraments that express how we experience and understand God to be present with us. Presently we meet online, but when we are able to gather in person, we celebrate Christ’s presence among us by having the eucharist together. The Eucharist, also known as Holy Communion is a sacrament (an outward sign of the grace we know and experience in Christ), and involves receiving bread and wine together, as Jesus commissioned his disciples to do.
Organizationally, we exist as a parish within the Anglican Diocese of Edmonton and serve alongside about 55 additional Anglican parishes that are geographically spread across a central swath of Alberta. The Anglican Diocese of Edmonton exists as part of the Anglican Church of Canada, which is part of the Worldwide Anglican Communion. This means that no matter where you are in the world if you visit an Anglican or Episcopal church for worship, there are things that are going to be familiar to you, no matter what liturgy that specific community uses. It’s quite a lovely thought to consider that the same prayers for peace, mercy and God’s presence in the world are being spoken throughout the world each day!
